Perhaps one of the WPA’s greatest works, Timberline Lodge on Mt Hood was dedicated in 1939. Recently the iconic Native American ispired Thunderbird carving above the main (Roosevelt Terrace) door had to be recreated to replace the original disintegrating piece. John Zipprich, a local craftsman, was commissioned to carve the replacement. View photos of the process below (found in the Oregonian), and some fantastic shots of the lodge in days gone by.
